April CDC News

It’s April and that means competition season is well underway!  I’m not talking about Track, Soccer or Baseball, (although these are great opportunities)-- I’m referring to CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization) state conferences and competitions.  Students in Career and Technical programs have amazing opportunities for leadership development, personal growth and showcasing their skills by participating and competing in the CTSO connected to their program.  Below is a list of those conferences that have already taken place.

  • The HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) conference was March 3-5.  Leigh Levesque, Health Sciences Instructor attended with Fernando Velasco Ramirez.

  • The FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) conference was held in Denver March 31st -April 2nd. CDC Culinary Instructors, Yvonne Justice and Cameron Stutzman accompanied the following students who competed:

    • Nathan Morris-LHS   2nd place gold-knife skills

    • Austin Coder-SCHS   1st place gold- gourmet sweet

    • Amanda Platt-MHS.    High gold-gourmet sweet

    • Alyse Ratliff-MHS.       High Silver-gourmet savory

  • During Spring break (April 7th -9th) , the state SkillsUSA conference was held in Colorado Springs.  CDC students from Cosmetology, Engineering and Welding programs attended and competed.  The following students competed in these areas:

    • Cosmetology:  

      • Maria Jasso, Ana Burciaga, Elisabeth Jimenez received a First Place & will be competing at the national level

      • Sima Zirkle received Third Place

    • Engineering:

      • William Tuck and Dominic Canetele

    • Welding:  

      • Trevor Moore and Josh Skagg
